Stroke survivors can use the Internet—I do!

There are many resources, products, references and tools available to help you regain your life and achieve your goals.  Click here for reviews of the products and books I use everyday. Click here to learn about screen reader software and the accessibility features of our website. Here are the Washington area websites I visit often.

Resources in the Greater Washington Area  Finding services to continue to improve after your insurance has run out is not easy.  We support the Stroke Comeback Center. It is a fully recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, dedicated to helping people continue to make improvements in their communication skills, regardless of ability to pay. The Center has communication groups (run like small classes) that cover all areas of communication deficit.  It also has a Computer Assisted Treatment Lab to assist with improving communication, and provides general support and other resources related to all facets of stroke.  We serve on the Center’s Consumer Advisory Board, and volunteer in fundraising, marketing, planning events, and any other ways we can help, and make financial contributions to support its activities.  The Montgomery County Stroke Association (MCSA) is a non-profit (501-C-3) charitable organization run by and for stroke survivors and their caregivers.  The MCSA has three chapters in Montgomery County, Maryland, which offer free monthly stroke support and education programs.  MCSA also publishes a monthly newsletter (the Communique') and an E-Bulletin, sponsors monthly computer-aided speech-language therapy sessions, and provides 24/7 telephone support (301-681-6272). Driving Aids Development Corporation designs, builds, and markets devices that enable a vehicle to be driven with ease, satisfaction, and enhanced safety by persons with disabilities.  The Medical House is a distributor of the highest quality products in home health care and rehabilitation to enable people to remain active and maximize their independence at home. We offer among the many categories of products. Stroke Survivor Fitness Exercise helps you be more active, less depressed, improves strength & overall health & wellness. I like to exercise & was happy to meet an exercise trainer who specializes in fitness after stroke, Nancy Seldon. Innovative Speech Therapy offers a uniquely effective approach to  therapy empowering individuals, families and professionals with  state-of-the-art local and long-distance therapy, coaching and training  programs.

You are marvels!  I just read the newsletter ... and it is simply priceless (I always read them, and they are all noteworthy, but this one is beyond good.)  Paul, your book is in my book as something that all clinicians should have, read, pass on (ie, make them buy) to their clients.

I came across your website today and just wanted to congratulate you on providing a helpful resource for stroke survivors and healthcare professionals.
